## Overview

This assignment focuses on understanding and assessing fluency in reading among exceptional learners. Through this analysis, you will demonstrate your ability to apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills in assessing fluency.

1. **Student Selection:** Choose a student with exceptionalities or reading difficulties.
2. **Student Profile:** Complete the Reading Performance Information and School Information Forms (Appendix B and C).
3. **Fluency Assessment:** Select and administer a suitable fluency assessment.
4. **Data Analysis:** Analyze the fluency data, calculate reading rate (WPM), and compare to grade-level norms.
5. **Strategy Formulation:** Suggest instructional strategies based on assessment results.

Complete the student profile forms to gather relevant background information and context for assessment.

### 2. Select a Fluency Assessment

Choose an appropriate fluency assessment tool from reputable sources.

### 3. Administer the Assessment

Conduct the fluency assessment with the selected student and gather data.

### 4. Analyze the Data

Calculate the reading rate in words per minute (WPM) and analyze the fluency data against grade-level norms.

### 5. Formulate Strategies

Develop strategies and lesson plans aimed at improving the student’s fluency, using the Backward Design Lesson Plan template.

### 6. Write the Analysis Paper

Compile your findings, analysis, and suggested strategies into a cohesive fluency assessment analysis paper using the provided template.

In this course, you learn about the various aspects of reading and language arts as related to exceptional children, including formal and informal assessments of students. This fluency assessment assignment will help you synthesize your learning and demonstrate your knowledge, application, and analysis of fluency and assessing fluency.

ELSE 5633: Literacy Assessment and Diagnosis of Exceptional Learners

 

 

Directions

1. Select a student (preferably a student with exceptionalities or struggling in the area of Reading).

2. Complete a student profile (Reading Performance Information and School Information Forms: Embed in Appendix B and C).

3. Select an appropriate fluency assessment from collaborative, online, and/or scholarly resources.

4. Administer fluency assessment.

5. Analyze the fluency assessment data. Calculate reading rate (words per minute [WPM] and analyze fluency assessment data [compared to grade level norms] and attach a scanned copy of the completed fluency assessment to Appendix A).

6. Formulate suggestions for strategies or lessons to increase fluency based on the student’s profile and fluency assessment data (Use the Backward Design Lesson Plan in template).

7.Write and turn in toCanvas a fluency assessment analysis paper using the template provided.
