Critical Appraisal of Research

The evidential best practices identified in the current literature is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program into clinical practice for children and adolescents. According to Zhang et al., (2021) as well as Zhou et al., (2020) research studies have proved that MBSR programs helps in the reduction of anxiety symptoms and its practice is ongoing across different groups. Including MBSR such as mindfulness meditation, body awareness, and Yoga is helpful intervention for mental health. For instance, Zhou et al. (2020) reveal that MBSR significantly decreases the anxious symptoms of youths; hence, it may be crucial for pediatric populations in which early treatment may be more effective.

Fumero et al. (2020) support MBSR in clinical settings by carrying out a meta-review of several MBIs that prove to effect the anxiety disorders. In their meta-review, systematic, it is asserted that MBIs, in particular, MBSR seems to have greater efficacy than conventional therapies in some situations. Their methodology is robust: and both extensive literature searches and strict evaluation criteria were employed to ensure the authors’ findings were accurate. A meta-analysis by Zhou et al. (2020) corroborated the mentioned findings that the MBSR program appeared to cause a reduction in participants’ anxiety symptoms. These results stress the utility of including or implementing MBSR in practice to enhance mental health in patients diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

Clinical practice for children and adolescents, according to Walter et al. (2020), calls for children and adolescents friendly methods of management for specific conditions of children and youths. Integrating MBSR within these principles lays the foundation for the best practices further and provides an opportunity to offer a non-pharmacological treatment option to be used as a single treatment or in combination with other treatments, similar to CBT. Thus, implementing the MBSR program into these guidelines adds a psychological and physiological component to anxiety treatment, improving youth patients’ health and well-being (Walter et al., 2020).
